Dear Parents,
I’d like to welcome your child to Room A115! I am very excited to start the new school year, and I hope your child is, too. I am looking forward to a successful year with your child.
I am pleased to introduce myself as your child’s teacher. This will be my twentieth year teaching as a Resource Teacher here at Arbor Park. We are lucky this year to have Ms. Allen working full time as a paraprofessional in our classroom. We are eager and ready for our school year to begin.
The following information will be discussed on the first day of school. I hope it answers most, if not all, of your questions. Please review all the information carefully with your child so you both have a better understanding of our daily school routine…

- Lockers- Each student will receive a locker right outside our classroom so we can easily help them when needed. We will help them practice and learn their combinations.
- Snacks- We have a short time frame planned into our schedule in the morning for snack time. Students sometimes benefit from having a little break in the morning. Some also need a little energy boost to get them through the long day! We have incorporated an optional snack time into the students’ schedules. If you would like your child to participate, he/she may bring in a healthy snack on a daily basis.
- Cass Rules and Consequences- As a class, we will come up with appropriate rules for our classroom. Consequences for breaking any class rules will also be discussed. We use a color code behavior management plan in our room to track individual student behavior. The new plan is explained on the last page of this packet. You will be notified of your child’s behavior on a daily basis through our communication books/planner.
- Homework- Your child will receive homework every night, Monday through Thursday. I rarely give homework on Fridays. Each assignment will be written in the student’s planner/communication book so you are aware of what needs to be done that night. Homework is due the following day for full credit, unless otherwise stated. Please be sure to check and initial your child’s planner/communication book daily. It is your child’s responsibility to bring homework home and back to school daily. Homework is accepted one day late for half credit, unless excused.
- Communication-
1. Communication Book/Planner- each student will receive a book that will travel to and from school every day. These books are used to track homework assignments, behavior, reminders, and notes. This is a great way for you to jot down any notes for me as well. We check their books every morning for notes and to make sure a parent has initialed each day. Please review your child’s communication book nightly.
2. E-mail- feel free to e-mail me at any time with any questions or concerns. I check my e-mail several times throughout the day. [email protected]
3. Phone- you may call the office anytime throughout the day. Leave a message with the secretary and I will call you back as soon as possible.
- Gym Suits- Gym suits are brought home every other Friday to be washed and returned on Monday.
- Student Work Folders- Each child has a file folder where we collect all homework and graded papers. This folder stays in the class and sent home about every two - three weeks for you to review and discuss with your child. I will ask for you to then sign and return the empty folder.
I hope you find this information useful. I find it essential for parents to be aware of our classroom procedures. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you for taking the time to review these areas. I am again looking forward to a very successful year with your child!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Maranda
